Innova Capital to acquire CheMeS, a leading printing company specialised in self-adhesive and heat-shrink labels production.

On 17 April 2019 Abris Capital Partners signed a binding contract to sell its portfolio company CheMeS M. Szperlinski Sp. z o. o. to Innova Capital. During the 3.5 years of intensive growth together with the founder and Board President Maciej Szperliński, the company managed to implement considerable investments in the production infrastructure and technology, which enabled it to enter new markets and win new customers.

Abris CEE Mid-Market Fund II invested in CheMeS in 2015, acquiring a majority holding. Over the past four years, together with Maciej Szperliński, the founder and the Board President, the company pursued an ambitious investment and production programme. It also commenced the challenging manufacturing of laminated tubes, focusing not only on growth, but also on making the organisation fully professional. Consequently, the company considerably increased its sales and operating capacities and it confirmed its strong position as a recognised player on the label production market. Currently, regular customers of CheMeS include both renowned stock-listed companies and medium-size enterprises based all over Europe, operating in the FMCG sectors such as cosmetics, personal hygiene products, food production or logistics.

“It was to our great satisfaction that we were able to support a Polish, family-run business that has been operating for 25 years, in its ambitious growth plans. Hand in hand with Maciej Szperliński and the key executives we managed to achieve the business goals that we had set at the beginning of our cooperation. We are proud to hand over the company to the new owner who is able to continue the intensive growth of CheMeS.” – says Edgar Koleśnik, Investment Manager at Abris Capital Partners Ltd.

The Innova’s investment in CheMeS is an element of the strategy of consolidation of the label sector in Central Europe, and another add-on acquisition, following the transaction of purchasing a majority holding in Embe Press Sp. z o.o. in March 2019.

“We are proud to become a shareholder in the company that has been run so successfully by Maciej Szperliński, its founder and the President of the Board. We are going to support the CheMeS in pursuing its ambitious plans for development in this very promising sector. Both Embe Press and CheMes are the leading players in the label market in Poland. With a complementary product offer for the various customer groups, we believe that both assets are extremely attractive from the fund’s perspective.” – says Michał Wojdyła, Managing Director of Innova Capital.

More detailed information concerning the plans of Innova Capital in the label sector will be shared after the transaction has been finalised, which will take place upon obtaining the consent from the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection.
